Frequently Asked Questions

OPTIMISE: How does it work?

  • Optimise is a smart, AI-powered home battery manager designed to help you get the most savings and efficiency from your energy system. It intelligently adjusts your battery settings based on your home’s energy usage, battery status, solar generation, and electricity prices for importing and exporting power. We communicate directly with your inverter to make this happen seamlessly.

Can Optimise link to my EV charger?

  • We understand the potential and value in what you are asking for. This feature is not currently available in the Optimise service, but the good news is that we are actively working on making it available in the future.

What is a G99 cert?

  • A G99 certificate is an important document in the UK for connecting larger solar installations (or other power generation systems) to the electricity grid. It ensures your system meets the necessary technical and safety standards set by the energy regulator.

How to get a G99 certificate:

  • You’ll need approval from your Distribution Network Operator (DNO). It’s usually required for systems that generate more than 16A per phase (roughly 3.68 kW). The certificate helps confirm that your system won’t cause any issues for the grid, making it a key step in setting up your renewable energy system smoothly and in line with regulations.

TARIFF RECOMMENDER: What is it?

  • Optimise is not a switching site, it's a guide to inform you what the best tariff is for you. It's up to you to switch. Once your switch completes, update your tariff in Settings and Optimise will continue to work its magic.
  • Picking a time of use tariff can be complicated. We have simplified this process by using your data and simulating how much you would have paid on different types of tariffs over the last 12 months so that you can make an informed decision about which tariff to be on.
  • Smart tariffs can be a bit trickier to compare than standard ones because their prices can change every 30 minutes. That's why Optimise runs a detailed simulation using a year's worth of your data to see how your battery would charge and discharge under each tariff. By optimising when and how much your battery operates, it can turn what might seem like an expensive tariff into one that actually saves - or even earns - you money.
